Thunder panoramaSometimes I'll get a certain shot in my head that, if I'm persistent enough, I know someday I'll capture. I've imagined a bull bison on a rise of a hill against a background of storm clouds for several years and on various occasions have come close to photographing the scene. Finally, on my way down to Yellowstone's Larmar Valley to shoot the bison rut, I ran into a lone bull working his way along a ridge of sage as afternoon thunderheads swelled

It's rare to have two clear nights in the mountains this time of year where weather is unpredictable and even a small bank of clouds can foul a shoot
but when he did I was treated to one of the best scenes I've photographed
