Siltstone 1

Siltstone 1Also known as Aleurolite. It is a form of mudrock approximately 150 million years old. The red inclusions with the stone are iron oxide. The stone is 1 inch x 7 8 inch. The crown height is 1 4 inch. Cabochon is hand cut and polished. Back of stone is not polished.

They are metamorphosed at convergent plate boundaries where an oceanic plate is pushed down into the mantle

Their name is derived by the spiral shape of their fossilized shells

The soft parts of the body continued to decompose and the hard parts such as bone were left

The stone is 1 3/4  inch x 1 1/4 inch
