Victorian Hand Painted Wooden Jewellery Box SOLDA charming Victorian hand painted wooden jewellery box. The green box is naively yet delicately hand painted with floral and gilt decoration throughout. A drawer has been fashioned within the lid recess which is an unusual feature. There is wear throughout commensurate with age. A highly attractive and decorative piece.

The box opens to reveal a mustard leather writing surface with gilt stamped foliate decoration and a greek key border

likely due to the slight raise from the plinth to the back right paw (please see photographs)

He is particularly inspired by early morning and evening light

The writing slope boasts exceptional marquetry depicting stylised themes from nature

and several of them were reproduced by Rainbird in the Bible Companion in 1959

which appears to be subsequent to the historic woodworm

Following that he and family lived for 3 years in Cornwell and 10 years in Lincolnshire England where he continued to develop his own art style that now
