Oban 14 yo (43%, OB, 75cl, +/-1988) Ben NevisSo a very early European Classic Malt, still filled into a 75cl bottle and bearing the 'Little Bay of Caves' nickname. Colour: Light gold. Nose: Sooty profile, full of black olives juice and roasted pine nuts. Some meaty fatness (mutton suet?) and then an unexpectedly gentler combination of butterscotch and caf latte. Wee touches of beeswax and thyme essence somewhere in the background. Mouth: Very sooty and a tad mustardy at first, getting then

rotund and at the same time sweet wine with a sweet and extra-fine tannin

Whether you're a seasoned connoisseur or just discovering the world of brandy

elegantly structured fortified wine from Portugal’s Douro region

but it will last for at least two decades

with good acidity that balances the sweetness of the wine

Wood smoke and forest floor: Earthy depth with a hint of mocha

Eyes: Golden yellow

This plummy vintage port from the 1988 vintage has a very attractive classic port nose and is very sweet with good flavour and has a fragrant aftertaste

full body with a long finish plum

A great northern highland malt for fans of Clynelish (name of the distillery that occupies the site)

but will be even better in five years time
