Mossy Grotto Size:16x24All I wanted to do was drive to The Dalles and take some pictures of wildflowers in front of mountains. Nice calm morning scenes which don't require much effort. Unfortunately my friends Steve Dondero and Steve Schwindt (both excellent photographers and hikers) had other plans. So in a span of 3 days we climbed the equivalent of 500 floors, got off trail more times than on trail, and made it to some of the most picturesque waterfalls in Columbia river

Sometimes we are not aware of these as we are experiencing them

We have a full day dedicated to exploring this area

Don't remember the last time I saw such beauty in the barren

the ferns at my feet and the smell of wet earth

That delicate phase of transition between darkness and harsh light

As luck would have it the conditions were perfect and I had the entire forest to myself

This area is also great for drone photography

You will have expert guides every step of the way

So when the opportunity presented itself to backpack 18 miles with a 1600+foot elevation gain and a 55lb backpack I was skeptical of my abilities
